INTRODUCTION TO HERBALISM
Saturday March 24,2012 10am-2pm
This is the perfect beginner's course for those who would like to start their study of herbal medicine as well as those are just curious. An overview of global herbal traditions and herbal history will be discussed. How to determine quality, freshness, use, storage and harvesting herbs. In addition basic herbal preparations such as herbal teas, tinctures, salves, infusions , poultice, decoctions, inhalations and soaks will be discussed and or demonstrated. Students will prepare their own salve. General plant actions are covered. Ten to twelve basic herbs will be discussed and demonstrated. Students will learn to prepare simple herbal formulas and will spend some time formulating and making a tea to take home and enjoy. A light lunch will be served.
Workshop tuition is $60 and includes instruction, resources, and medicine making materials and lunch.
The class will sample teas and fresh plant tinctures. They will receive a 4 oz. Jar of Salve and a tea blend.

THE INCREDIBLE EDIBLES
Saturday April 28, 2012 10am-2pm Tentative
Redefine local with an exploration of edible plants. Come spend the day learning to find and identify those tiny, flowerless bits of green that come with the opening weeks of spring. Discover the world of chickweed, the wonders of violets, how to eat poke weed safely, and just how delicious a dandelion can be. This workshop will focus on common and easily identifiable edible plants, many of which are no doubt growing in your own yard or local park. Many plants will have emerged, others we will identify where they are going to grow. Propagating your own gourmet salad greens is a snap. You will get on growing fresh and tasty greens along with proper harvesting techniques. Then you’ll plant a pot with a nice mix of lettuces that will grow into a bounty of salads and pansies – about three months’ worth. You will also learn all about how the liver works and the herbs used to keep it healthy. Helpful if you suffer from acne, constipation, digestive upsets, hormone imbalances, fibromalgia, allergies, arthritis (and the list goes on and on). We will be addressing the specifics of an Herbal Spring-Cleaning often needed after a long winter of heavy foods and reduced physical activity. Lunch will be served.

INTENTIONAL GARDENING

Human beings have used flowers and herbs with the intent of shifting their world for thousands of years. Since earliest times people believed that flowers and herbs have been endowed with magical, mystical or divine properties. The Doctrine of Signatures, flower symbolism and the language of flowers, properties of flower color will be discussed. Students will make a Tussie Mussie bouquet of three flowers to express your secret feelings. And a planter to attract love, money, healing, protection, etc. Lunch will provided.

KITCHEN HERBS

Learn how they can support and even improve your health! Find out how to incorporate spices into your daily lifestyle to boost immunity and prevent heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, and aging! Students will make a pain salve as well as a herb planter for their Kitchen.Lunch will be served.
